About Sandal Attar
What is sandal attar?
Sandal attar, also written sandalwood attar or simply sandal oil, is a perfume oil distilled from the heartwood and roots of the sandalwood tree. The wood has to mature for decades before it carries enough oil to be worth distilling, which is the main reason genuine sandalwood costs what it does. The scent is soft, milky and woody with a faint sweetness, and unlike most woods it is warm rather than sharp. It is alcohol-free, so it suits prayer, and it is mild enough for people who find stronger attars overwhelming.
The two sandalwood oils we stock
They are not the same kind of product, so it is worth knowing which you want:
- Sandal is the wearable attar: a classic creamy sandalwood, warm and subtle, and the one to buy if you want a fragrance to put on.
- Australian Sandalwood EO Oil is an essential oil rather than a perfume. It is lighter and cleaner than the attar, and it is meant for layering under other scents and for aromatherapy as much as for wearing alone.
Buying your first sandalwood, take the attar. The essential oil is the better choice once you know you like the note and want to build with it.
What sandalwood smells like, and who it suits
Creamy, soft, woody and slightly sweet, with none of the smoke you get from oud and none of the green bite you get from khus. It sits very close to the skin, which makes it a good office and daytime scent, and a good choice in Pakistan's heat where a heavy attar becomes tiring by noon. Sandal attar for men and for women is the same oil; nothing about it is gendered. It is also the most forgiving attar to layer, which is why sandalwood is the base underneath so many traditional blends, including several in our pure attar range.
Buying and Using Sandal Attar
Sandal attar price in Pakistan
The attar is Rs.3,500 for 3 ml, Rs.6,500 for 6 ml and Rs.12,500 for 12 ml, so the larger bottles work out slightly cheaper per millilitre. The Australian essential oil runs Rs.5,000, Rs.10,000 and Rs.20,000 across the same three sizes. Sandalwood is priced by how long the tree took to grow rather than by the size of the bottle, and anything sold as sandalwood attar for a few hundred rupees will be a synthetic approximation. Most sandalwood perfume sold internationally is a spray built around a synthetic sandalwood note; what is on this page is the oil itself.
Wearing sandal attar
A single dab at the wrist or the base of the throat is enough. Because it stays close, reapplying in the afternoon is more useful than over-applying in the morning. It layers beautifully: a drop of sandal under a rose or oud attar softens the opening and makes the whole thing last longer without making it louder.
Delivery and exchange
Both oils ship cash on delivery across Pakistan and usually arrive within four to five working days. The shop is at Bahria Orchard on Raiwind Road in Lahore if you would rather try them first, and with two products this similar in name that is genuinely worth doing. Exchanges are accepted within 15 days on bottles still at least 95% full, sale items aside, and international orders are arranged over WhatsApp.
Common questions about sandal attar
What is the sandal attar price in Pakistan?
At Usman Baig, Rs.3,500 for a 3 ml of the sandalwood attar, rising to Rs.12,500 for 12 ml.
What is the difference between the attar and the essential oil?
The attar is made to be worn as a fragrance. The essential oil is lighter and intended for layering and aromatherapy, though it can be worn too.
Is sandalwood attar good for daily use?
Yes, it is one of the best attars for it. Sandalwood is mild, stays close to the skin and does not overwhelm a room.
Does sandal attar suit men or women?
Both equally. It is a soft, warm woody scent with nothing gendered about it.
Why is real sandalwood expensive?
Because the tree needs decades of growth before its heartwood holds enough oil to distil, and yields are small.
